Susan Friedland, author of Marguerite, Misty and Me: a Horse Lover's Hunt for the Hidden History of Marguerite Henry and her Chincoteague Pony never grew out of that horse phase. In 2018 after re-reading Misty of Chincoteague for the first time as an adult, Susan was inspired to hunt for the backstory of her favorite horse book author and set off on an epic adventure. Susan found some of Marguerite's friends, explored the unique Chincoteague Pony subculture, uncovered the Newbery Medal-winning author’s writing techniques (from primary source documents archived in an underground cavern in Minnesota) and investigated her legacy.
